Tunnel 7 Website Added to Showcase

Published on Jan 06, 2009

The good folks at ExpressionEngine recently added the Tunnel 7 website (yes this very website you’re on right now) to their list of showcase websites built with ExpressionEngine

For those of you who haven’t been following my posts regularly, ExpressionEngine is a content management system that (at the most basic level) allows users to update their websites without needing to involve their designer each time a change is needed.  It also offers mailing lists, forums, wikis, blogs, photo galleries and many other advanced features.

I began using ExpressionEngine about two years ago and converted this website to ExpressionEngine in 2008.  I have been very pleased with ExpressionEngine.  In fact, it is the first content management system I actually like more the more I use it.  It is extremely flexible and can accommodate any design I come up with (many other content management systems predefine website layouts for you).

As this year unfolds I will be using ExpressionEngine more for my client projects so it is good to receive some recognition to get the word out.

Why Web Standards?

Simple visual consistency

Because content and style are separated a style change made in one location affects content across the entire site.

Better search engine results

With the code being much more compact, search engines can easily read content and will display better results for you.

Website maintenance less expensive

With visual appearance controlled by a single file maintenance becomes a breeze. No more changing dozens of individual pages.

Accessibility to all devices

Cell phones, pdas, screen readers — a standards based website will render better in these than a traditional tables based website.
